Litematica guide: load a blueprint and build it step by step

Litematica shows you a blueprint right in the game as a see-through hologram. You see which block goes where and build it. The blueprints are files ending in .litematic.

What is Litematica?

Litematica is a client-side mod for Minecraft Java Edition by maruohon (masa). It overlays schematics in the world, highlights missing or wrong blocks and creates material lists. You need a suitable mod loader (for example Fabric) and the MaLiLib library. Always use the version that matches your Minecraft version.

Load and place a blueprint

  1. Put the .litematic file in the "schematics" folder of your Minecraft directory.
  2. In the game, press M and C to open the Litematica menu.
  3. Choose "Load Schematics", find the file and load it.
  4. Place the blueprint where you want it in your world.

Menu names and hotkeys can differ between versions. You can change them in the settings.

Build layer by layer

For large builds it helps to work on one layer at a time. Litematica can show only part of the blueprint so you are not overwhelmed by all blocks at once. Build from the bottom up so you always stand on solid ground.

Use the material list

Litematica creates a material list from the blueprint. It shows how many blocks of each type you need and what is still missing. Gather the materials before you build, especially in survival.

Save your own builds as a schematic

With Litematica's selection tool you mark a building and save it as a schematic. That way you can back up your own builds or share them.

A note on multiplayer

On servers, the server rules apply. If in doubt, ask whether Litematica is allowed.
